BRO to Construct the world’s highest tunnel at ShinkuLa Pass Between Himachal & Ladakh

Excellent News for Travellers! BRO to Construct the world’s highest tunnel at ShinkuLa Pass Between Himachal & Ladakh

In an exciting development, BRO (Border Road Organization), which constructs roads alongside India’s borders, announced that they would commence the construction of the world’s highest tunnel. This tunnel will be constructed at Shinku La Pass. Sitting at 16,500 feet, this tunnel will be the highest tunnel ever constructed anywhere globally!

As per the statement of Lieutenant General Rajeev Chaudhry, Director General BRO, the construction will commence in July of this year. It will be a part of the Central Government’s “Project Yojak”. This ambitious project aims to construct many strategically important roads in bordering states, including Himachal Pradesh.

Once completed in 2025, this tunnel will act as a boon for the Zanskar valley’s economy. This strategic tunnel will connect Zanskar valley to Himachal. As of now, reaching Zanskar Valley is a daunting task in itself.

One has to travel to Darcha from Manali on Leh Road. Later, they have to take a turn from Darcha to Shinku La Pass. From here, they can enter Zanskar Valley. But once the tunnel is complete, the distance & travelling time will be reduced greatly.

One end of the tunnel will be Shinku La & the other will be at Lakhang. This will make travelling quick & easy. It will also help boost the tourism & overall economy of the Zanskar valley.
