Rohtang Pass Will Remain Closed for Tourists till April 2022.

Planning to visit Himachal?

You may have to make some changes in your itinerary as Rohtang Pass is now closed for tourists. The Himachal Pradesh State Government issued an order in this regard and said that the famous Rohtang Pass will remain closed for tourists and day-trippers till April-end 2022.

As per statements, the step has been taken due to extreme weather conditions and slippery roads, which have made driving hazardous. As a result, the Rohtang Pass permit will not be issued online.

The state government said in its announcement that the movement of all types of vehicles from Kothi village towards Rohtang Pass will be confined till further orders. Earlier, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) had also proposed the shutting of the pass for civilians due to tempestuous weather.

Since it is an important link that also connects further parts of Ladakh, this tourist destination had a significant number of people during the festival season and till the beginning of this month.

Significantly, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) had suggested that the road leading to Rohtang Pass froze at several places due to falling temperatures and inclement weather and it should be closed for civilian vehicles.

Not only this, even in 2021, Rohtang Pass will not open at the beginning of the year. Rohtang Pass is likely to open at the end of April 2022. Till then, tourists have been banned from coming here. The notice further states that since water has frozen at many places, the roads may become slippery at any time.

Wherever you go in Himachal, you have to cross this pass. At 13,050 feet, the pass is an important route that connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti valleys in Himachal Pradesh. At the same time, the Manali-Leh highway is closed since November 2. However, vehicles of the Indian Army, police and emergency services have been allowed through the Atal Tunnel.
